Oh, I just want to say, while I remember it, that because I've had a couple of holiday ending aperol spritzes over dinner, apparently I'm now known as Chuck Norris. I'd like to say it's because the kids think I kick ass, but I really think it was a slip up, and while Johnny meant to say "Mum", he accidentally said "Chuck Norris". I'm going to roll with that.

Someone bring me a sangria!!!

On to our recollection of the day....

I've come to the conclusion that having no natural light in the apartment, and having the curtains closed to cover the fact that there's nothing but a brick wall 1 meter away, will indeed make you not realise that it's 10am, and well past time to get up.

That, coupled with the kids wanting to have a gossip call with their mates back in Aus every morning, means we got out of the apartment again well after midday.

The big fella & I snuck down to the market at 10am, before the tourists hit for certain, and actually enjoyed the place for what it is. Without the crowds. Very pleasant.

We picked up a few things, and they were delicious, but all fried, and super fatty. So, we all had a few bites, and then headed back to our cereal & yoghurt.

Just want to say that at this point in our trip, we are all sick of....

  • pastries
  • pizza
  • bread
  • cheese
  • 2 min noodles
  • potato chips
  • ham
  • pasta

We can't wait to have a proper home cooked meal, with steak, salad & mash. (Apparently the kids want slurpees & proper KFC). <insert horrified mummy face here>.

After brekkie, we levered the kids out of their beds and pyjamas, and hit the streets. We saw a lot in a small amount of ground today. The Barrio Gothica, Le Born neighbourhood (which I'm going to book for our next stay), the Santa Maria del Pi church, the Cathedral of Barcelona (all sides), a few different squares, the Parc de la Cuitadella, the Arc de Triompf and the Palau Guell.

The alleys are so beautiful. I took a bunch of pictures, but they just don't do justice for what you can see with your eyes. So many details, and so ornate. Even the messy up ones. Actually, there aren't many messed up ones, they're so clean, with so many people living in the one spot, they all do their little bit and while they're worn, there is no rubbish. We've found that in a lot of places around Europe. Much cleaner than they used to. DEFINITELY not the dog poos there used to be.

And here in Barcelona, you drop your rubbish in a bag at the door of your building, and some magic garbage fairy picks it up in the night. MAGIC!! Pooof!

It was a very pleasant walk. We stopped for lunch at a little pizza place, and did their menu formule - 1 piece of pizza + a drink = 4.50 Euros. Super yummy, but again, pizza. At least I got veges on mine!!!

We came home for an hour break, and then headed out for another walk, in the hunt for dinner. Down to the edge of Barceloneta, then back closer to our place, to Placa del Pi. Tapas for dinner and my 2 aperol spritzes have filled me up completely.

We're about to sit down to watch Forrest Gump. The kid's introduction to it. Fingers crossed they "get it".

We'll be early to bed tonight, to get up at a reasonable time tomorrow. We're going to hit Parc Guell & the beach for a swim. Then packing for our flights home.

Eek, home!!! We're excited, and not. I'd love a break, knowing that my bed is a good place to be, but I don't really want to stop travelling. I'd like to learn French properly, and maybe learn Spanish, when I get home. Along with getting a proper job next year.

Anyways, on to Forrest's box of chocolates..... ;-)
